Spotlight on the Bridle Path

Blog by Doriana Zohil-Morton, Broker of Record/Owner | August 1st, 2018

Many people moving to Toronto seek out the upscale neighbourhood of the Bridle Path in Toronto, which is the most affluent neighbourhood in Canada. It is bordered by the Post Rd to the north and Park Lane Circle to the south, between Park Lane Circle to the west and The Bridle Path to the east. It gets its name from its equestrian beginnings. Originally, the area was home to the horsey set. But by the 1920’s, plans for the area included a network of equestrian trails.

The area as we know it today is due to some affluent businessmen and avid horsemen building luxurious homes in the area in the 1930’s. After some time, lots were sold in a minimum of 2 acre parcels, and home plans were scrutinized to ensure the architectural integrity of the neighbourhood. Some of the original homes remain to this day, including the first home built at 2 The Bridle Path in 1936. The neighbourhood is filled with old growth trees, and beautiful gardens, though no equestrian trails exist to this day. The Bridle Path neighbourhood is across the street from the affluent Granite Club, and a short drive to some of Toronto’s best private schools, including TFS (Toronto French School), Havergal College, and Crescent School. Commute time to the financial district of downtown is 40 minutes by public transit, or 50 minutes by car.

Real Estate in the area has always provided excellent returns. Turnover of homes in the area is a bit lower than other areas of the city. In the 1980’s, homes went for $2,650,333 on average. In the 1990’s it was $2,670,455. In the 2000’s it was about $3,178,693. However, from 2010 to present, the average selling price is $8,644,883. There are only 5 homes on the market right now, with an average asking price of $17,498,000. Rentals in the area are rare, with only one smaller home currently available for rent, with four bedrooms, asking $9,900 per month.
