Spotlight on Trinity Bellwoods

Many people moving to Toronto have asked about the Trinity Bellwoods community in Toronto. It is bordered by College St to the north and Queen St W to the south, between Dovercourt Rd and Bathurst St. It gets its name from Trinity Bellwoods Park, which sits between Dundas St and Queen St W (north and south), Crawford St (to the west) and Gore Vale Ave (to the east). The park itself was named after Trinity College, which originally sat in the middle of what is now the park (only the gates remain, at the Queen entrance to the park).

The area as we know it today was a result of Trinity College, which attracted development in the early 1900’s. Once the college was closed down and the building removed, the city converted the property to a park, which is now a great centre-piece to the community. The park itself has a community centre, volleyball court, playground with wading pool, walking/cycling trails, as well as space for soccer, football, rugby, and baseball. The past decade has seen many old bars in the area being converted into restaurants and coffee shops. In fact, some of today’s most popular restaurants now reside along Ossington. Commute time to the financial district of downtown is 24 minutes by public transit, or 30 minutes by car.

Real Estate in the area offers homebuyers some fantastic options. As of May 2018, there were 912 new listings, selling for 102% of asking price, within 15 days, and with an average selling price of $744,569 (close to the average selling price of condominium units in found in Liberty Village). As a result of the affordability of homes in this area, individuals moving to Toronto or accepting a Toronto relocation often select this neighbourhood for their new home, above other homes in the Greater Toronto Area. Ten years ago the average selling price was $390,321, so real estate in the area proves to be an excellent investment with properties nearly doubling in value in 10 years. One bedroom rentals rent for, on average, $2,275 per month.
