VISIT SERIES: Niagara Falls

Blog by Doriana Zohil-Morton, Broker of Record/Owner | June 12th, 2019

New to Toronto? On a Toronto work assignment and want to see the sights? Visiting Toronto and the GTA? The Greater Toronto Area has some spectacular things to see and do. In our “Visit” series, we will focus on some of the great day-trips to take to get to know your new hometown.

Niagara Falls is on many people’s bucket list, and is known throughout the world. Featured in many movies, and a popular destination for eloping couples, the Falls are popular for a reason… they are breathtaking! When visiting Toronto, taking a drive to Niagara Falls is a MUST.

Niagara Falls is actually made up of three waterfalls: Horseshoe Falls, American Falls, and the Bridal Veil Falls. The waterfall that is most well-known, and what people picture when they think of this area, is the Horseshoe Falls. Both the American and Bridal Veil falls are located in the United States, but are best seen from the Canadian side. Beyond the breathtaking beauty, the falls are actually a very valuable source of hydroelectric power. Both Canada and the United States benefit from the power produced at the Falls.

There is no shortage of things to do in the area, 12 months a year. Visitors of all ages can find fun things to do. Thrill seekers can get right up close to the base of the Horseshoe and American Falls on a tour boat through Hornblower Niagara Cruises (even getting a bit wet!), or Journey Behind the Falls on foot. Not enough of a thrill? Try out WildPlay Whirlpool Adventure Course, which consists of suspended obstacles and zip-lines above the Niagara River. There is also the Niagara Speedway, which is North America’s largest elevated go-kart track. Or partake in a helicopter tour which gives you a spectacular view of the falls and surrounding area, or you could take a leisurely ride on the Niagara Skywheel gondolas. Another excellent way to take in the stunning views is on the Skylon Tower observation deck.

In winter months, parts of the Falls freeze up, along with railings that build up with frozen spray, which provide a unique beauty you don’t want to miss (just be sure to bundle up). In the spring/summer/fall, come enjoy the beautiful parks, and stay overnight so you don’t miss the Falls illumination and fireworks.

Shopping, casinos, play centres, an IMAX theatre, wax museums, heritage museums, indoor skydiving, the Guinness World Records Museum, and so much more will keep you entertained for days. The area does not disappoint!
