Spotlight on Banbury-Don Mills

Blog by Doriana Zohil-Morton, Broker of Record/Owner | August 3rd, 2018

Many people moving to Toronto have asked about the Banbury-Don Mills community in Toronto. It is bordered by the York Mills Rd to the north and Eglinton Ave E to the south, between the Wilket Creek and the Don River.

The area as we know it today is a result of careful planning. The area was one of the first planned and fully integrated post-war community in North America. Following WWII, in the 1950’s, this area was considering the “suburbs”, and young families flocked to the area to buy their first home. Originally the area was only accessible by York Mills or Don Mills, but thanks to city planning, more artery roads were added, and the area thrived. In 2010, then Prime Minister Stephen Harper helped break ground on the Aga Khan museum, which is a museum of Islamic art, Iranian (Persian) art and Muslim culture. Commute time to the financial district of downtown is 52 minutes by public transit, or 30 minutes by car.

Real Estate in the area still offers homebuyers some excellent options. As of May 2018, there were 131 new listings, selling for 98.1% of asking price, within 17 days, and with an average selling price of $991,291. As a result of the affordability of homes in this area, individuals moving to Toronto or accepting a Toronto relocation often select this neighbourhood for their new home, above other homes in the Greater Toronto Area. Ten years ago the average selling price was $447,352, so real estate in the area proves to be an excellent investment with properties more than doubling in value in 10 years. One bedroom rentals rent for, on average, $2,038 per month.
