VISIT SERIES: Pinery Provincial Park

Blog by Doriana Zohil-Morton, Broker of Record/Owner | June 26th, 2019

New to Toronto? On a Toronto work assignment and want to see the sights? Visiting Toronto and the GTA? The Greater Toronto Area has some spectacular things to see and do. In our “Visit” series, we will focus on some of the great day-trips to take to get to know your new hometown.

Pinery Provincial Park is a beautiful park located on Lake Huron, close to Grand Bend. A total of over 6,000 acres were set aside to help preserve the oak savannah and beach dune ecology back in 1957. This park is simply stunning, and has caught the attention of National Geographic, whom rated this park one of the 10 best sunsets in the world. The world!!! Well, far be it from us to disagree. It truly is a spectacular spot. See just why they say that: https://yourshot.nationalgeographic.com/photos/6668923/

So is this just a day trip, or what? Let’s just go ahead and say that you will want to plan a bit of trip out of this. It’s well worth it! There are plenty of options for accommodations, from good-ole camping, to clamping a bit in a yurt. More into hotels? Not to worry, there are plenty of those too.

Dunes beach is by far the most popular destination at Pinery Provincial Park. Open from May to October, visitors can enjoy 10 km of sand beach. With beautiful crystal clear water, this is a delightful place to spend the day.

The oak savanna is home to over 300 bird species, 60 butterfly species, and is actually part of a white-tailed deer population control program.

The park itself has excellent facilities, amazing trails, canoeing, campfires, and the obligatory summer ice cream shop, so a family trip to Pinery for the weekend will surely result in first-rate memories.
