The Beach is a small neighbourhood in east Toronto south of Kingston Rd, between Coxwell Ave and Victoria Park Ave. Sometimes the area is referred to as the “Beaches”… a debate that began in the 19th century and continues to this day, so we will remain neutral and just say “that beachy area in east Toronto”. Regardless, the name came about due to the four beaches found in the neighbourhood… Balmy, Scarboro, Kew and Woodbine.
The area as we know it today, was a result of the Toronto Harbour Commission appropriating the area in 1930 and artificially enlarging the four beaches to make one continuous beach. The officially opening of the boardwalk to the public took place in 1932. Today the area is home to the Beaches International Jazz Festival, and many other concerts. The commercial area on Queen St E is also great for shopping and dining. Commute time to the financial district of downtown is 36 minutes by streetcar, or 45 minutes by car.
Real Estate in the area hit the million dollar mark in 2017 consistently, and has not looked back. The area has always been strong, from a real estate perspective. As of May 2018, there were 129 new listings, selling for 105.5% of asking price, within 9 days, and with an average selling price of $1,127,143. One bedroom rentals rent for, on average, $1,894 per month.
