Spotlight on Riverdale

Blog by Doriana Zohil-Morton, Broker of Record/Owner | July 20th, 2018

Many people moving to Toronto have asked about the Riverdale community in Toronto. It is bordered by the Danforth to the north and Lake Ontario to the south, between the DVP and Greenwood Ave/railway lines. It gets its name from Riverdale Park (which, in turn, got its name from the Don River to the west).

The area as we know it today is very multicultural and artistic. Many independent galleries are found in the area, and there are even some large corporate film studios. A fun fact: the Degrassi TV series was named after De Grassi St, found in the Riverside district. Riverdale has become quite popular with young families, whom have begun to purchase in the vicinity, with many parks to enjoy all year long. As the area is so popular with young families, this neighbourhood is often sought after by individuals moving to Toronto or accepting a Toronto relocation, above other homes in the Greater Toronto Area. Commute time to the financial district of downtown is 21 minutes by public transit, or 28 minutes by car.

Real Estate in the area still offers homebuyers some good options. As of May 2018, there were 120 new listings, selling for 113.2% of asking price, within 7 days, and with an average selling price of $995,318. Ten years ago the average selling price was $451,328, so real estate in the area proves to be an excellent investment with properties more than doubling in value in 10 years. One bedroom rentals rent for, on average, $2,100 per month.
